Revelation 3:20
Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and dine with him, and he with Me.
Picture Jesus standing just outside, knocking gently at the door (Revelation 3:20). It’s a picture loaded with urgency and warmth—a Savior coming near, inviting us to listen, to notice His approach. Like a close friend arriving unannounced or a long-awaited guest finally at the doorstep, this moment isn’t one of distant warning but of personal appeal. Scripture elsewhere reminds us that the Judge stands at the door ready to appear (James 5:9), but here, the emphasis falls on the invitation, not just the arrival.

Often, when Christ draws near—through changes in the world, through shifts in our lives, through the gentle whisper of His Spirit—many remain sleepy or distracted, barely lifting their eyes to the window. The “knocking” can be quiet: the call to turn back, the restlessness in our hearts, the nudges of conscience or stirrings through circumstances. Still, Jesus’ voice persists—patient, hopeful, loving—calling us to readiness (Matthew 25:6).
Yet, the invitation isn’t forced. If anyone hears and opens the door, the blessing is personal and profound: Jesus comes in, entering our ordinary lives, and breaks bread with us (Revelation 3:20). Fellowship with Christ is intimate; it’s not only for that someday moment at His return but for right now, in the everyday rooms of our hearts. Those who live ready—like the wise virgins prepared for the bridegroom (Matthew 25:10)—enjoy His presence and His peace even as they anticipate the fullness of His coming kingdom.
So if your heart hears His knock today, don’t leave it unanswered. Open wide in faith and humility. You are welcomed not just into relationship with Him, but into the deep joys of belonging, where the Lamb Himself tends and refreshes His people and His presence becomes our home (Revelation 7:17). Take comfort—He draws near to bless all who are watching and willing to welcome Him.
