John 10:30
I and the Father are one.”
When Jesus declared, “I and the Father are one,” He wasn’t simply making a statement about closeness or shared purpose—He was speaking of a unity far deeper than that (John 10:30). The language He used shows that He and the Father are two distinct persons, yet truly share the same divine essence. They are perfectly united in all their attributes, especially their power. This truth explains why no one can snatch believers out of His hand or His Father’s hand—they are protected by the very power of God Himself (John 10:28-29).
It’s natural to wonder about other statements Jesus made, such as when He said that only the Father knows the day and hour of the end—not even the Son as the Son of Man (Mark 13:32). Here, it helps to remember that Jesus is both fully God and fully human. In His divinity, He shares all of the Father’s knowledge, glory, and power (John 1:1). But in His humanity, He willingly accepted limits, including dependence and growth, just like any person. These statements do not contradict each other; they reveal the marvelous mystery of Christ’s two natures.
Knowing this, we can rest in the rock-solid assurance Jesus promises. If you belong to Him, your security does not depend on your frailty, but on the shared, unbreakable power of the Father and the Son—one God, perfectly united in keeping and saving all who trust in Him (Colossians 2:9). Let this truth anchor your heart, for you are held by hands stronger than anything this world can bring.
