Psalm 103:2-3
Bless the LORD, O my soul, and do not forget all His kind deeds— He who forgives all your iniquities and heals all your diseases
David opens his heart with a call for his very soul to bless the Lord—not just with a passing word, but with deep, earnest devotion (Psalm 103:1). He repeats himself, as if to stir up his innermost being, to remind himself just how important this thankful worship is. Praise is not a task to rush through; it is an act that demands our full attention, an act we must consciously set our hearts upon.

He urges, “forget not all His benefits”—not a single one (Psalm 103:2). All of God’s blessings, even the ones that seem small or ordinary, come to us undeserved. They don’t flow from anything we have done, but from a deep well of God’s mercy (Lamentations 3:22-23). And yet, how quick we are to forget! Just like the Israelites, who sang God’s praise one day and seemed to forget His goodness the next (Psalm 106:12-13). God, knowing how forgetful we can be, has given us reminders—His Spirit brings to mind all He’s done for us (John 14:26), and we’re called to remember, not only for our own encouragement, but to cultivate a heart of gratitude.
At the top of David’s list is forgiveness. He celebrates the God who “forgives all your iniquity” (Psalm 103:3), no matter how deep or numerous our sins—no stain too crimson, no guilt too heavy. This forgiveness is not a one-time event, but a continual stream of mercy, flowing fresh every day because of Christ’s finished work (1 John 1:7). And with the same breath, David remembers how God heals all our diseases. These are not just ailments of the body, though God cares for our health too, but the greater sickness of our souls—wounds of guilt, bitterness, pride, and fear. The Lord uses His word, His Son’s sacrifice, and the gentle work of the Spirit to restore what is broken within us (Isaiah 33:24).
Take comfort in this: God does not ration His mercy, nor lose patience with your weaknesses. Each morning, His compassion starts anew. Let your soul remember, rejoice, and return thanks to Him today.
