Hebrews 7:25
Therefore He is able to save completely those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to intercede for them.
When we read that Christ “is able to save to the uttermost,” we see a promise that reaches far beyond just a temporary rescue or a string of good circumstances (Hebrews 7:25). This is speaking of spiritual and eternal salvation—a complete deliverance from every form of evil now and forever, and the sure gift of every true good thing in this life and the one to come (John 10:28). Jesus was chosen and sent by the Father for this very work. He did not come into the world simply to teach or inspire, but to accomplish salvation fully and forever, just as His name tells us (Matthew 1:21).
This was no small task. Law had to be fulfilled, justice satisfied, sin borne and removed, every spiritual enemy faced, even death itself defeated. No angel or human could do this. The Old Testament priests could point to the need for a Savior, but they could not bring salvation themselves. We cannot save ourselves, no matter how earnestly we try (Romans 3:23; Ephesians 2:8-9). Only Christ is truly able. He is mighty to save, and He saves all who come to God through Him—fully, perfectly, with nothing lacking and nothing left unfinished (Isaiah 45:22).
But who are those who receive this salvation? It is not extended in some cosmic sense to everyone, but to those who approach God through Christ—the God of grace, not just the God of creation and providence. This coming is not a matter of location or religious performance, but of faith and humble spiritual need, drawn by God’s own love and Christ’s finished work on the cross. Anyone who comes through Jesus, the only true Mediator, is welcomed and accepted, because He intercedes for them even now.
Christ’s ongoing intercession is our anchor. Though He died, He lives forever and stands as our Priest—always presenting His perfect sacrifice and righteousness on our behalf (Romans 8:34). He is never weary, never denied, never less than completely willing and able. Every day, He prays for us: for forgiveness, strength, perseverance, and joy. Because He lives and prays for us, our hope can rest quietly and confidently in His unending care.
