The Lord will guard you from all evil; He will preserve your soul.

It is a gentle comfort to know that, in a world filled with trouble and uncertainty, God Himself promises to shield His children from every true kind of evil (Psalm 121:7). This does not mean we are spared from every hardship or sorrow—believers may still face trial, illness, or the sting of loss—but God transforms these troubles so they are never true ruin for those who belong to Him (Romans 8:28). Affliction, in His hands, becomes a tool that brings about our good.

When we talk about being kept from evil, the promise runs deeper than outward circumstances. God’s protection is not mainly about sparing us from pain, but about rescuing us from the greatest dangers: the power of sin, the empty temptations of the world, and the destruction caused by the evil one (Matthew 6:13; John 17:12). The Lord does not promise that we won’t struggle, or even stumble, but He promises that sin will never again reign over us or condemn us forever (Romans 6:14). Even when Satan tempts or the world rages, God’s grip never slips.

Most precious of all is how God keeps our very souls. Though our bodies are fragile and subject to time, sickness, and even death, the Lord values and shelters our inner life—the true “us.” Even in the grave, He does not forget us, and when Christ returns, we are promised resurrection and joy with Him forever (John 6:39). This salvation is His own work, from beginning to end.

So today, rest in God’s steady promise to keep you. No power on earth or hell will ever wrench you from His care (John 10:28). Your struggles may be real, but God’s faithfulness is stronger still, and He will preserve you all the way home.
