Ephesians 1:7

Ephesians 1:7

In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace

Imagine standing chained in a dark cell, the weight of shackles heavy on your spirit. This is the state of every person, by nature—bound to sin, caught by the enemy’s power, and crushed under the law’s demands (Romans 6:16Ephesians 2:1-3). But the gospel brings radiant hope: in Jesus, we have redemption, a true rescue accomplished by His own blood, poured out for us on the cross (Colossians 1:14). Captivity is no longer our fate—He has paid every ransom, breaking sin’s grip and silencing condemnation’s threats.

Think of redemption this way: Jesus became our nearest relative, our kinsman-redeemer—the only one both able and willing to free us completely (Hebrews 2:14-15). He is God and man in one, chosen before time began and sent at just the right moment (Galatians 4:4-5). All who belong to Him, chosen and adopted by grace, share in this deliverance—not because of anything in themselves, but because Jesus offered His own innocent life in their place (Ephesians 1:4-7). No angel required this rescue—only broken, wandering people did.

One of the sweetest fruits of this redemption is forgiveness—full, lasting, and all-encompassing. Past sins, present regrets, future failures: all are cleansed by Jesus’ sacrifice (1 John 1:7Psalm 103:12). This forgiveness is not doled out sparingly or earned by hard bargain, but flows straight from God’s generous, overflowing grace. We bring nothing but empty hands, and Christ supplies all we need, paying what we never could, so that we walk out of our chains freely in His name (Isaiah 55:1).

Rest assured, then—if you belong to Christ, redemption and forgiveness are yours: not as a wage, but as a cherished gift, lovingly given, never to be taken back.
