John 1:3

John 1:3

Through Him all things were made, and without Him nothing was made that has been made.

Everything in existence was made by Him—the eternal Word—which settles every truth about His deity, His timeless presence with the Father, and His power as God Himself (John 1:1–3). This “all things” doesn’t simply refer to spiritual renewal, as some might think, but points to the whole creation: the heavens and all their wonders, the vast expanse of earth and sea, and every living thing that fills them (Genesis 1:1). The world as we know it did not come from mere chance or some impersonal process. Rather, the Son, together with the Father and the Spirit, spoke and shaped reality itself, calling galaxies, oceans, and human life into being (Colossians 1:16).

It’s good to remember: the Word isn’t an instrument, but the source—the almighty cause behind everything seen and unseen. Without Him, not a single thing would have come into existence. Creation is the handiwork of His wisdom, not just as an act long ago, but as an ongoing testimony to His power and goodness. Jesus isn’t just the Redeemer—He is the Creator, and nothing exists apart from Him.

Even the ancient writings of the Jewish teachers echoed this, speaking about God’s Word as the very One by whom all things were shaped. We also find this truth celebrated across the Old Testament, affirming that the world’s foundation and all its beauty have their beginning in the hands of the Lord (Isaiah 48:13Deuteronomy 33:27Hebrews 11:3).

This truth is not just a doctrine to defend, but a rich comfort—your Maker is also your Redeemer. Every breath, every sunrise, and every unseen detail of life carries His creative love. You are held by the very Word who called the universe into being, and He is able to finish every good work He began in you (Philippians 1:6). Take hope in this: you walk today in a world shaped—and sustained—by the hand of Christ.
