Indeed, all who desire to live godly lives in Christ Jesus will be persecuted,

Paul’s words offer a gentle but honest reminder: anyone who truly wants to follow Jesus with their whole life, seeking to honor God’s will in their actions and attitudes, will eventually meet resistance (2 Timothy 3:12). This way of living isn’t something we drum up by effort alone—Christ Himself is the source and sustainer of new life in us (Colossians 3:3). When we depend on Him for strength, desiring to walk in His steps, it shapes not only what we do, but what we long for in our hearts (Philippians 2:13).

Persecution, in one form or another, is woven into the story of every believer. Jesus told us plainly that following Him wouldn’t always be popular or easy (John 15:20). This isn’t just for missionaries or early Christians, but for all who belong to Him. While not every follower will face violence or loss of property, every believer will at some point feel the sting of rejection, misunderstanding, or ridicule—all because Christ’s light unsettles the world’s darkness (Acts 14:22). Even small slights, criticisms, or cold shoulders, when they come because of our loyalty to Christ, are part of walking His path.

But take heart—this shouldn’t surprise us, nor should it cause us to lose our joy. Our Savior also walked this road; He suffered first so that we could follow, and in doing so, become more like Him (Romans 8:17). These hardships are not signs that we’ve gone astray, but that we are being gently shaped into Christ’s likeness, fitted for a kingdom that outlasts every sorrow. So, when difficulties come for the sake of Jesus, let it encourage you: you are not alone, but walking with all God’s people, upheld by His gracious hand.
