Philippians 1:6
being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
When Paul reflects on the church in Philippi, he expresses a steady, joyful confidence—not because of their own abilities or track record, but because of the God who began His work in their hearts (Philippians 1:6). He reminds us that the “good work” truly worth celebrating is not simply belonging to a church community, acts of generosity, or visible outward changes. Rather, it is God’s transforming grace deep within—a new spiritual life, awakened and sustained by Him.
This grace reaches down to darkened minds and wandering hearts, illuminating our understanding, stirring faith, humbling our will, and making us new at the very root (Ephesians 2:8–9; Titus 3:5). Like the first dawn in creation, the Spirit breathes new light and life into us, kindling love for God, for His people, and for His truth. It is an inside-out change, often quiet, sometimes trembling—yet unmistakably the work of God’s hand.
Though the work is sure, it is not yet finished. Believers still wrestle with weakness, doubt, and the pull of sin, longing for the day when the work will be brought to perfect completion. Yet, God’s faithfulness stands strong—He will never leave His work undone or forsake those He has made new (1 Thessalonians 5:24; Psalm 138:8). The promise is firm: what God begins, He always brings to its glorious end, whether at the moment of death or the return of Jesus.
Take heart, then, if your faith feels small or your progress slow. God’s work in you does not depend on your strength, but on His unfailing character and promise. He who called you is faithful—He will finish what He started.
