Colossians 3:23-24

Colossians 3:23-24

Whatever you do, work at it with your whole being, for the Lord and not for men, because you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as your reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.

In everyday life, it’s easy to think that only big acts or public accomplishments matter. But here we are reminded that even the simplest task, if done in the right spirit, has meaning before God (Colossians 3:23). Whether you’re a servant in the home or an employee on the job, what truly counts is the attitude of your heart. God does not want us to serve reluctantly, out of mere habit or pressure, but asks us to work willingly, with genuine care and good will—seeing His glory in the small and ordinary as well as the large.

Think of the Hebrew servant who, out of love for his master and family, chose to stay and serve willingly rather than depart when free to go (Exodus 21:5). This is the picture we are given—not service born out of dread, but one that springs from affection, loyalty, and trust. When our honest efforts are offered “as unto the Lord,” we find delight even in humble chores (Ephesians 6:7).

You may feel overlooked or undervalued in your daily work, but God sees your faithfulness. Earthly rewards may seem meager, but Scripture lifts your gaze higher: “You know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as your reward” (Colossians 3:24). This inheritance isn’t something we earn by merit or hard work; it is God’s free and rich gift, given to His children out of love (Ephesians 2:8–9Romans 8:16–171 Peter 1:3–4). Jesus Himself is our faithful Master, who honors all who serve Him and promises to welcome them into His presence forever.

So take heart. However small or unseen your efforts, they matter when done for Jesus. You serve Him, the One who always keeps His promises and delights in those who are faithful in little things. Let these truths encourage you to keep working with diligence and joy, looking beyond today to the rich inheritance God prepares for you.
