Genesis 1:27
So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
At the very heart of Genesis, God tells us He created humans in His own image (Genesis 1:27). This beautiful truth separates us from every other creature God made—the human body upright and expressive, designed with dignity, and the soul made to live forever, shining with thoughtful understanding, purity, and a longing for what is good and right (Ecclesiastes 3:11). Even more, God placed in humankind a remarkable authority: to care for creation, acting as His stewards on earth (Psalm 8:4-8).
From the very beginning, the Word—who was with God and who is God Himself—was present in humanity’s design (John 1:1-3). It is through Him that all things were made, and in whose likeness we were fashioned, confirming our unique purpose and the honor God gives us—stated not just once, but twice for emphasis, highlighting how loved and cherished we are in His eyes (1 Corinthians 11:7).
God’s creation of humans as “male and female” was not some mysterious blending of both in one—He made the man first, and then out of him, formed the woman, so they could share in partnership and love (Genesis 2:21-24). By starting with just one man and one woman, God set the pattern for marriage: a joining together of two into one, honoring both man and woman equally in dignity and design (Malachi 2:15).
Take comfort in knowing that you are the result of God’s thoughtful intent—not an afterthought, but the crowning work of His creation. Whatever the world says about your worth, remember: you bear the very image of God, and He made you to reflect His character, dignity, and love, both in your relationships and in your daily life (Genesis 1:27).
