Isaiah 9:6
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government will be upon His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Imagine a world draped in deep shadows—people longing for hope, weighed down by strife and the heavy hand of oppression. Into this scene, a great light bursts forth, and joy follows like morning after a bitter night (Isaiah 9:2-3). Here’s the reason for such radical change: “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given” (Isaiah 9:6). This promise isn’t about an earthly king or a fleeting leader, but about the Messiah—God’s answer to darkness. Some tried to pin these hopes on mere human rulers, but only Christ fits the majesty and everlasting peace prophesied here.

Notice how the prophet describes the child as both “born” and “given.” Jesus came into our world with real flesh and blood—just like us—so that He could truly share our burdens, defeat the curse of sin and death, and draw near as our High Priest, spotless and compassionate (John 1:14, Hebrews 2:14). Yet He is God’s Son, freely given for our rescue—a gift not reserved for angels or the privileged, but for everyone who puts their trust in Him (John 3:16). Every promise, every joy, and each breaking of bondage—these are ours, because God has sent His Son for us.
Take in the beautiful names He is called: “Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Christ is more than a source of wise advice; He is the very wisdom of God for every need (Isaiah 28:29). His power is unmatched, His care is fatherly and without end, and His rule brings genuine peace—within hearts and one day, finally, across the earth (Ephesians 2:14). Unlike all others, His government is steady and eternal, resting securely on His strong shoulders.
So let weary hearts be comforted. Christ’s rule isn’t oppressive; it uplifts and rescues. His counsel never fails, and His peace can quiet any storm. In Him, you are known, cherished, and held in everlasting arms.
