1 Corinthians 16:14
Do everything in love.
Picture a church bustling with life, full of energy and good intentions, but also wounded by arguments and strained relationships. In his letter, Paul appeals tenderly to this community, urging that everything they do—every act of worship, every church project, every word spoken—be done in love (1 Corinthians 16:14). He doesn’t just mean ordinary kindness, but that deep, Christ-shaped love which is patient, forgiving, and eager to see others flourish (1 Corinthians 13:4-7; 1 Peter 4:8).
Genuine Christian obedience doesn’t spring from mere duty, or from trying to impress others, but from hearts warmed by love for Jesus (John 14:15). That love naturally overflows into the way we treat one another. In meetings and decisions, whether we agree or disagree, our actions and words should be marked by tenderness, humility, and a desire for the good of everyone—never driven by pride, rivalry, or a need to have the final word (Philippians 2:3-4).
Paul knows this isn’t always easy, especially where wounds and disagreements run deep. Yet he teaches that love doesn’t keep score or spotlight others’ faults, but is quick to forgive, looking for ways to heal and restore (Ephesians 4:2-3). Without love, even the most impressive words or deeds count for little; love is the true measure of all Christian service (1 Corinthians 13:1-3).
If your own church or community is experiencing tension or division, let this gentle command comfort you: love is not only the glue that holds relationships together but also the light that brings hope and healing. As you go about your day, let love guide your words and actions, trusting that God works powerfully through hearts that choose charity above all.
