Romans 1:16
I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, first to the Jew, then to the Greek.
Picture the apostle Paul standing in a bustling city, surrounded by skeptical faces, firm in conviction and full of hope, declaring, “I am not ashamed of the Gospel” (Romans 1:16). In a world where many might shrink from sharing such an unpopular message—especially when reputations or even lives are at risk—Paul’s courage stands out. Some, then and now, are tempted to keep quiet, preach something easier, or water down truth for the sake of approval. There are voices that seek to blend the Gospel with their own ideas, to court acceptance or avoid the sting of criticism. Paul, however, held nothing back: his confidence was rooted in the worth of the message itself and the honor of sharing it openly and fully.
This confidence didn’t come from stubbornness or bravado, but from a deep understanding of what the Gospel truly is: the message of Christ Himself (Galatians 1:11-12). What Paul preached wasn’t his opinion, but the very truth Christ revealed. More than that, the Gospel carries God’s power—not just in theory, but actively transforming lives. You see its strength not by force or coercion, but by its effect: blind eyes are given sight, hard hearts are softened, enemies become friends of God (2 Corinthians 4:4-6). It works quietly but effectively; lives are changed, often in ways that surprise even the most skeptical observer. God’s love, displayed in Christ’s saving work, reaches people in ways that human strength or wisdom never could (1 Corinthians 1:18).
The Gospel reaches out with the promise of salvation—not to just a select few, but “to everyone who believes” (John 3:16). While the message was first entrusted to the Jewish people, offered through their heritage of faith, its welcome quickly widened to include Gentiles as well—a mystery, once hidden, now revealed by God’s grace (Ephesians 3:4-6). The only requirement is faith—simple, honest trust in Him who saves.
So, take heart: You need not be ashamed of this message. It is God’s living invitation to new life, joyfully offered to all who will receive it. Let its truth embolden you; its hope is strong enough to change the world—starting with your own heart.
