‘He will wipe away every tear from their eyes,’ and there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the former things have passed away.”

Imagine a gentle hand, brushing away every tear and sorrow from your face—not just in comfort, but because the cause of all grief, pain, and regret is finally gone for good (Revelation 21:4). This is the hope God gives to those who trust Him: a future where every reason for sadness—personal failures, the devil’s attacks, the distance we sometimes feel from God, and the sting of life’s suffering—will simply no longer exist.

Here, death itself loses all power. No longer will loved ones be separated by the grave, nor will God’s people ever fear persecution or a violent end (Luke 20:36). Those who share in Christ’s resurrection will have bodies untouched by age, disease, or injury—just as the angels remain unbroken by the passing of time (1 Corinthians 15:52–54). Even more, spiritual lifelessness and the fear of eternal separation from God are gone forever (Revelation 20:6). The final enemy, death, is swallowed up in victory.

There, sorrow, crying, and pain—whether from loss, injustice, sickness, or even the weight of our own regrets—will be memories with no present sting (Isaiah 35:10). All the reasons for sighing and suffering will be swept away. Instead of bodies that fail, believers will be raised strong, glorious, incorruptible, and fitted for everlasting joy (1 Corinthians 15:42–44).

The hard places and heavy burdens of this world are temporary—a season soon to pass. God promises that every source of heartache is part of those “former things” destined to fade away. Let this hope steady you: all that troubles you now is only for a moment, and God himself will bring an end to every pain, leaving only peace and joy in His presence (2 Corinthians 4:17–18).
