John 14:15
If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.
Picture the quiet evening where Jesus sits with His friends, knowing their hearts are anxious and the hours are short. With kind simplicity, He says, “If you love Me, keep My commandments” (John 14:15). It’s not a test to trap them or a sign that He’s uncertain of their affection. Instead, He’s pointing to the way love naturally overflows—just as a child who adores their parent listens with eager intent, or two close friends grow to treasure each other’s words.

Those who are born again—who have been awakened to see Jesus’ beauty and trustworthiness (2 Corinthians 4:6), who know the deep riches of His love—find their hearts drawn toward Him more than toward anyone or anything else (Colossians 3:1-3). Love for Christ isn’t just sentiment—it’s a genuine longing for all that He is and a gladness in belonging to Him. When we truly experience His forgiveness, kindness, and nearness, a desire stirs in us to honor Him, not out of duty, but devotion.
Jesus’ commands aren’t just rules etched in stone; they’re expressions of His care for us. These include loving one another sacrificially (John 13:34), sharing in His table and baptism, and walking faithfully with His people (Matthew 28:19-20). Our obedience doesn’t earn His affection—it grows from it. And as we keep His words, we discover the freedom, unity, and comfort found only in following our Redeemer and Shepherd.
So don’t weigh your love by wavering feelings, but let it show in trusting obedience. Each ordinary step of faith, each quiet yes to what He asks, weaves a daily pattern of love that pleases Christ. Even when we stumble, His call is not to condemnation but to return, forgive, and follow anew. Remember, He already loves you—and this gracious invitation is for your joy.
