Hebrews-9-27-28

Hebrews 9:27-28

Just as man is appointed to die once, and after that to face judgment, so also Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many; and He will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who eagerly await Him.

Picture life as a journey with certain milestones that no one escapes. Just as every person faces death once and, after that, the certainty of standing before God’s judgment (Hebrews 9:27), so also Christ entered our story just once, offering Himself to carry the overwhelming burden of many sins—not just a few, but countless wrongs for people whose names stretch across all times and places (Hebrews 9:28). He came not to cover His own misdeeds—He had none—but to bear all that was filthy and bitter in us: not only our open failures, but every hidden offense, the pain, the guilt, and the heavy punishment we could never lift ourselves (Isaiah 53:6). He took this weight voluntarily, became answerable for all His people, and never faltered under what would have crushed anyone else (2 Corinthians 5:21). By doing this, Christ satisfied justice perfectly and cleared the way for real forgiveness and peace.

Still, that once-for-all sacrifice doesn’t automatically sweep everyone into salvation. The invitation is open, but only those who turn to Christ in faith, waiting and watching with hope and trust, will share in its benefits (Romans 3:25–26). This is why many are made righteous and find forgiveness, but not all. The gift, though offered widely, must be received.

But the story doesn’t end with His death and resurrection. Just as surely as Christ came once to deal with sin, He promises to appear a second time—not to carry sins again, but to bring full and final salvation to those eagerly expecting Him (Hebrews 9:28). No shadows of sin will darken that homecoming. Instead, those who have trusted in Him, even while facing weakness and judgment in this life, will be met with joy and deliverance when He appears in glory.

Let this assurance steady your heart: Christ’s sacrifice means you no longer face judgment alone. By faith, you can look forward—not with fear, but with patient hope for the day He returns, bringing salvation in its fullness.
