Hebrews 2:18
Because He Himself suffered when He was tempted, He is able to help those who are being tempted.
When we think about Jesus enduring temptation, it’s helpful to remember the many moments in His life when He faced both spiritual and everyday hardships (Hebrews 2:18). From the time He began His ministry and all the way to the garden before His crucifixion, Satan pressed Him with countless temptations—yet never found a single flaw or shadow of sin in Him (Matthew 4:1-11). The enemy tried every angle, but Jesus’ heart remained wholly pure. The temptations themselves were real and painful, a cause of true suffering to His holy soul, even though He never gave in.
Beyond these spiritual trials, Jesus carried the daily weight of life’s hardships: poverty, rejection by His own family members, and constant misunderstanding or ridicule from the very people He came to save (Isaiah 53:3). The religious leaders tried to trap Him with tricky questions (Matthew 22:15), His friends abandoned Him in His hour of need (Matthew 26:56), and on the cross, He even experienced the dreadful silence of the Father (Matthew 27:46). Each hardship, each sorrow—these were suffering, and they qualify Him to understand every painful trial we face.
Because of this, Jesus is able and eager to help us when we’re tempted or weighed down (Hebrews 4:15-16). None of our struggles are unknown to Him; He sympathizes deeply, not as a distant observer, but as one who has truly walked the rough path Himself. When temptation or trouble presses in, you can run to Him—He will pray for you, strengthen you, silence the enemy, and support you until the trial is past (Luke 22:31-32). His triumph over sin and suffering is our hope.
So no matter how lonely a struggle may feel, remember: you have a perfect Helper. Jesus, tested in all the ways we are, stands ready to comfort, strengthen, and rescue every soul that depends on Him (Psalm 34:17-18).
