Ephesians 2:10
For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance as our way of life.
Picture for a moment a master artist at work—not hastily splashing paint, but skillfully crafting a beautiful piece, attending to every color and detail. In a similar way, those who belong to Christ are described as God’s masterpiece, His workmanship (Ephesians 2:10). This isn’t simply about being made as humans, but about the even greater gift of being reshaped as new creations by God’s grace (2 Corinthians 5:17). This work happens deep within, like the hidden beauty of a royal daughter whose glory is on the inside (Psalm 45:13). It’s not finished in an instant—God patiently continues shaping us, never abandoning what He starts (Philippians 1:6).

This transformation isn’t achieved by our own strength, nor is it the result of another person’s efforts—this is God’s work from beginning to end (Ephesians 2:8-9). Both Father, Son, and Holy Spirit actively bring life and light to our hearts. No matter our past, whether Jew or Gentile, we were once far from Him, but by sheer mercy, He makes us His workmanship (Ephesians 2:1). That’s why earning salvation through our own goodness doesn’t fit—everything good in us is crafted by God Himself, both the rescue that comes from Christ and the growing holiness within us.
We become new creations in Christ so that we are actually able to do good works. These are not merely old habits polished up or self-improvement tricks, but new capacities planted in us by God—just as plants bear fruit after careful planting (John 15:5). Good works then flow from this new heart and are the fruit of God’s ongoing power. God has already prepared these good paths, inviting us not just to do an occasional kind deed, but to make our whole life a steady walk of goodness (Titus 2:14). We don’t walk in good works to be saved; rather, because God loves and saves us, He guides and enables us to live this way.
Be heartened today: God’s commitment to you is personal and purposeful. He has begun a good work in you and will not give up until His beautiful design shines through your life. Let this truth steady your steps and fill you with hope and gratitude.
