Acts 16:31
They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, you and your household.”
In that dark prison cell, the jailer’s desperate question cut through the silence: “What must I do to be saved?” The clearest, simplest answer was given—believe in the Lord Jesus Christ (Acts 16:31). But this belief is not just a cold acceptance of facts—like agreeing that Jesus lived, died, and rose again, or that He sits enthroned in heaven. If faith were merely about knowing certain truths, even the enemy of our souls could claim it (James 2:19).
The heart of true faith is not bare knowledge but trust—leaning fully on Jesus for hope, forgiveness, and new life. To believe is to rest our eternal needs in His hands, relying on Him as the only source of peace, righteousness, and eternal security (John 6:28-29). It is looking to Him alone, not our own efforts or goodness, for the rescue we desperately need.
Salvation, the promised gift, means deliverance from sin—its power, guilt, and shame—as well as freedom from the curse of the law and the grip of evil (Mark 16:16). While faith is the means by which we come to Christ, it is Christ Himself who saves. Faith recognizes the treasure in Jesus, reaches for it, and receives it openhanded.
And notice the kindness of the promise: “you and your household.” Grace does not trickle; it flows generously, inviting whole families to trust in Christ (Acts 16:34). Yet, each person must believe for themselves—no one can ride to heaven on another’s faith. Run quickly to Him, then, and know this: all who turn to Jesus with open hearts will find pardon and life, and never be turned away (John 6:37).
