Romans 15:13
Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Imagine standing at the threshold of a day that feels uncertain, yet hearing someone call God the “God of hope.” It’s more than a comforting title—it captures how God alone can breathe confident hope into our hearts, especially for those who once felt far from Him (Romans 15:12). True hope isn’t manufactured by our own efforts or found in the promises of this world, whether wealth or personal achievements. Instead, hope is a gift God patiently grows in us, birthed in new hearts by the Holy Spirit and anchored in Christ Himself—our living hope (1 Peter 1:3).
God doesn’t merely invite us to hope—He continually supplies everything needed to make that hope steady and rich, especially when discouragement or temptation makes our hope feel faint. In every season, God stirs our trust through reminders of His past faithfulness, the assurance of His promises, and glimpses of His love. Even if hope wavers, He fuels it with fresh strength, ensuring it won’t die out but will endure and even abound when the way grows hard (Lamentations 3:21–23).
That’s why the apostle prays, asking the God of hope to fill believers with all joy and peace as they trust. Not the fleeting joy of earthly pleasures or shallow peace that cracks under trial, but deep, Holy Spirit-inspired joy that wells up in knowing God as Father, Son, and Spirit. This joy springs from seeing Christ as our righteousness and salvation, relishing His forgiveness, and finding peace within ourselves and with each other. True joy and peace grow in the soil of faith—every renewed act of believing in Christ increases our delight and calms our anxious hearts (Romans 15:13; Isaiah 26:3).
Let these truths encourage you today: Hope, joy, and peace are not unreachable ideals, but gifts God delights to pour out through His Spirit. As you keep trusting Christ, God promises to multiply hope within you—a hope strong enough for today and assured of glory tomorrow (Romans 5:1–5).
