Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth. Serve the LORD with gladness; come into His presence with joyful songs.

The opening words here invite everyone, everywhere, to lift up a glad shout to the Lord—a call not just for one land or one people, but for the whole creation (Psalm 100:1). Picture how, when a beloved champion enters the city or a family is reunited, joy breaks out all around. That’s the spirit of this psalm: all nations and every kind of person summoned to celebrate God, our true King. We see glimmers of this joyful noise in Scripture’s great moments—from angels proclaiming Christ’s birth (Luke 2:13-14), to worshipers greeting Jesus on Palm Sunday (Matthew 21:8-9), to the final chorus awaiting His return (Revelation 19:6-7).

But this rejoicing is not empty noise; it flows from serving God with gladness (Psalm 100:2). Serving here doesn’t mean cold duty or fearful obligation, like one serving a hard master. Instead, it’s the eager service of those who know their Lord is good, welcoming, and gracious. Christ has set us free from the old burdens and given us the joyful, Spirit-filled liberty of beloved children (Romans 8:15). We come to God, then, not as unwilling workers but as those who delight in both Him and His ways—gladly praising and enjoying Him.

Bringing songs into His presence means we worship not just with words but with hearts full of gratitude and confidence. Singing, both in our church gatherings and in our private moments, becomes an offering—one that reflects our thankfulness for His mercies and gently leads us to trust Him for every new need (Colossians 3:16). Whether in trial or triumph, we find reason to rejoice, for our Lord has conquered every enemy and makes us more than conquerors through His love (Romans 8:37).

So today, let this psalm lift your perspective. We belong to a song greater than our circumstances—a joyful noise that stretches across the world and up into heaven. We are free to serve God cheerfully, worship Him openly, and offer glad songs, knowing that He receives us with open arms.
