Romans 10:13

for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

There’s a unique comfort in this promise: “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Romans 10:13). The apostle quotes from the prophet Joel (Joel 2:32), reminding us that God’s mercy isn’t locked behind a special code for a select few, but freely available to anyone—Jew or Gentile, familiar or stranger—who turns to Jesus with a sincere heart.

The richness of God’s grace is far more than a temporary solution or a momentary rescue. It means lasting deliverance, deep and eternal—stretching from this world into the next (John 5:24). Joel’s message was always pointing forwards, toward the days of the Gospel, and Peter made this clear to the crowds at Pentecost (Acts 2:16). This isn’t just about getting out of a tough spot, but about being swept up into the story of grace that God is writing for all He calls—no matter their background or burden.

Notice, too, that Joel speaks of a “remnant”—a people chosen and called by God’s own initiative (Joel 2:32). While the crowds may be many, God knows each face, each name. When God calls someone by His grace, He finishes what He begins. There’s an unbreakable line connecting that first cry for mercy and the promise of everlasting glory (Romans 8:30). If you have ever called upon Christ, take heart: you are included in this unshakable promise.

No matter your past or how far off you feel, this invitation stands. Call on Him—even from your lowest place—and you’ll discover that His mercy meets you there, just as surely as it has from the very beginning.
