Galatians 6:7

Galatians 6:7

Do not be deceived: God is not to be mocked. Whatever a man sows, he will reap in return.

Let’s not kid ourselves—God sees right through our excuses. When Paul urges the churches not to be deceived, he’s speaking both to those who are tempted to believe the smooth words of false teachers and to those who try to quiet their own conscience with clever justifications (Galatians 6:7). Maybe someone thinks, “My family needs all I have—I just can’t give anything to support those who teach God’s Word.” Another says, “Others are better off; let them carry the burden.” These thoughts feel reasonable in the moment, but Scripture warns us: such reasoning is only fooling ourselves—not God.

God is never tricked or mocked by outward appearances or good-sounding excuses (Galatians 6:7). He sees not just what’s in our wallet, but what’s in our heart. We might be able to convince ourselves (or even others) that our lack of generosity is justified, but the truth is, withholding support from those who serve faithfully in ministry is not just tough budgeting—it’s treating God Himself lightly. And He will not allow that to go unanswered.

Paul gives us a gentle, timeless illustration from the field: “Whatever a person plants, that is exactly what he will harvest” (Galatians 6:7). Farmers don’t sow corn and expect roses to grow. A bountiful sowing leads to a healthy harvest, but stinginess leaves the ground nearly bare (2 Corinthians 9:6). If we sow nothing, that’s precisely what we’ll gather in return. This isn’t just an old saying—it’s a spiritual principle that stretches across every part of life, especially when it comes to generosity and caring for those who shepherd God’s people.

Take heart: God isn’t a distant observer, keeping cold records. He delights in cheerful giving and promises that every act of faithfulness will be met with His faithful provision (Philippians 4:19). So, don’t be afraid to trust Him with open hands—He stands ready to give all you truly need.
