2 Timothy 3:16-17

2 Timothy 3:16-17

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for instruction, for conviction, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, fully equipped for every good work.

In Paul’s second letter to Timothy, he paints a breathtaking picture of what the Bible truly is: not just an ordinary book, but God’s very breath on every page (2 Timothy 3:16). When he writes, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God,” he means every part—Old and New Testaments alike—all of it bearing the unmistakable signature of the Holy Spirit. Unlike any other writings, the Bible stands apart in its majesty, its depth, and its unity, though it was penned by many hands over centuries and in distant places. No human could ever have conceived its mysteries—the Trinity, the incarnation, the resurrection—nor predicted, with such accuracy, events centuries before they happened (Isaiah 44:281 Kings 13:2Luke 24:44).

There’s a special comfort in knowing God’s Word hasn’t been lost to history, despite generations of opposition and persecution. While powerful rulers and skeptics tried to stamp it out, God has kept these writings alive, pure, and unbroken. The Bible’s honesty—unflinching about the failings of its heroes—confirms its trustworthiness. And again and again, from pulpit to cottage, its words have reached and changed hearts, bringing light and hope where there was none.

But this is not just a marvel to ponder; it’s a practical gift. Scripture is described as profitable in four ways: it teaches us what’s true, refutes what’s false, points out where we stray, and guides us back to what is right (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Here, we discover doctrine and find correction; we learn how to live well and where true righteousness lies. Anyone who belongs to God—especially those called to lead—can be made complete, ready for every good work, equipped for life’s challenges and opportunities.

So when you open your Bible, remember: you are holding the living word God intends for your growth, assurance, and joy. Lean into its truth, rely on its guidance, and let it fill you with everything you need to walk with Him today.
