Proverbs 3:7-8
Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and turn away from evil. This will bring healing to your body and refreshment to your bones.
There’s wisdom, the world says, in following your heart and trusting your own judgment. But Scripture offers a gentle warning: do not imagine yourself wiser than you are, acting as if you can safely chart your own path without God or the counsel of others (Proverbs 3:7). To lean solely on one’s own understanding, to refuse advice, or to value your opinions above the wisdom found in God’s Word—this is not true wisdom but dangerous pride (Isaiah 5:21). So often, what people parade as wisdom is only foolishness in disguise. Real wisdom always acknowledges its source: the Lord.

The remedy is simple yet profound—fear the Lord. Such humble reverence pulls us down from our self-made pedestals and draws our hearts to depend on God, to seek His guidance, and to honor Him in every decision (Romans 11:20). There’s no room for arrogance where the fear of God is present. Instead, humility and trust flourish; these are the marks of someone truly wise and honorable (Proverbs 22:4). This deep respect for God will always lead us away from sin—especially the subtle sins of pride and self-reliance—and point our feet toward what is good and right (Proverbs 16:6).
And God promises more than just guidance. This kind of wisdom, built on humility and trust, nourishes us through and through—like the marrow that strengthens bones or the inward health that gives energy to the whole body (Job 21:24). When our hearts are turned toward trusting His wisdom above our own, we walk in spiritual health and enduring strength.
So let your heart be quick to seek His voice, not your own acclaim. The path of humble, God-fearing wisdom is both safe and full of blessing for every part of life.
