“Because he loves Me, I will deliver him; because he knows My name, I will protect him.

The Lord Himself speaks these words, drawing back the heavenly curtain to reveal how much He delights in those who truly love Him (Psalm 91:14). There’s a special attention here, an affectionate notice of the one whose heart is fixed on God. This love isn’t a fleeting feeling, but a settled devotion—the kind that grows out of being loved first by God and then returning that love with sincere, undivided affection (1 John 4:19). When our hearts are set firmly on the Lord—more than on anything or anyone else—He both recognizes and cherishes it.

Because of this steadfast love, God promises rescue. He delivers His people from every danger, including sickness, hardships, and even the subtle temptations that threaten to undo us (Psalm 91:3; 2 Thessalonians 3:3). This doesn’t always mean trouble disappears, but God keeps those who belong to Him safe in the midst of it all, so that nothing can ultimately harm or separate them from His care (Romans 8:38-39).

God goes even further: He will set His loved one “on high”—lifting us up onto the solid, unshakable Rock that is Christ Himself (Psalm 61:2). It means we have a place above the reach of fear and every enemy, a home in God’s very presence both now and forever (Ephesians 2:6). Ultimately, God’s people—lifted by His grace—reign with Christ in the glory that He shares.

All this rests on knowing His name—not just knowing about Him, but experiencing who He really is: merciful, gracious, perfectly trustworthy (Exodus 34:6). It is this living relationship that becomes our greatest joy and highest honor. When you know and trust Him, you are truly safe—and He delights to lift you up.
