Psalm 118:24
This is the day that the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.
There are certain days in history we remember with deep gratitude—milestones marked not just by human hands, but by God’s design. The psalmist points us to such a day with these words: “This is the day that the Lord has made” (Psalm 118:24). It’s a day stamped with divine purpose, a time made radiant by the acts of God for His people. Some see this as the day Jesus entered Jerusalem, drawing near to suffering and the cross to redeem those He loves (Matthew 21:9; John 12:13). Others hear in these words the bright dawn of Jesus’ resurrection—when God honored His Son and offered joy to all who would be set right with Him (Luke 24:6-7; Romans 4:25).
But we can also see this “day” as something broader—the ongoing, present season of God’s grace opened up by Christ’s coming. It’s the age of the Gospel, lit up by the Sun of Righteousness and brimming with opportunities to receive God’s mercy (Malachi 4:2; 2 Corinthians 6:2). This isn’t just a commemoration of a moment in the past, but an invitation to experience God’s faithfulness here and now.
So, how should we respond to such a day? “We will rejoice and be glad in it” (Psalm 118:24). We rejoice, not because life is simple or free of struggle, but because the Gospel brings forgiveness, peace, and hope into any circumstance (Romans 5:1). God has not only made this day, but filled it with grace upon grace through Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection.
Let this truth settle in your heart—when you greet each new day, you are stepping into a world shaped by God’s redeeming love. Whatever comes, you can be glad, for the Lord has made today, and He walks every hour with His people.
