2 Timothy 1:7
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control.
Stepping into the calling God gives us can seem daunting, especially when anxiety or worries about what others might think begin to stir in our hearts. Yet, we’re reminded that fear—the kind that shrinks back, that makes us hesitate to do what is right or to boldly speak truth—is not from God (2 Timothy 1:7). God does not send us out with a spirit weighed down by timidity or dread, whether that fear comes from the threat of people, spiritual opposition, or the heavy responsibility of sharing His message.

Instead, what comes from the Lord is a powerful strength—His very own Spirit described as “power from on high” (Luke 24:49). This power fortifies us against criticism and rejection, gives us endurance in the face of trials, equips us to resist temptation, and grants us steady courage to remain faithful no matter the pressure. It is not about self-reliance, but about the Holy Spirit equipping us to stand firm and complete the work God has given.
Alongside this strength, God fills us with love: a love that attaches us to Him, to Christ, to His people, and to the world He seeks to redeem (Romans 5:5). Those fueled by such love do not act out of a desire to protect their own comfort or reputation, but are concerned above all with God’s glory and with the spiritual good of others. When God’s love takes root in us, even the loudest opposition can be met with unshaken perseverance.
Lastly, we are given a sound mind—steady, wise, and anchored in the truth of God’s Word (Titus 2:2). This does not promise a life free from difficulty, but it promises the grace to act with calm discernment and uprightness, whatever comes. If you feel fearful or hesitant today, let this remind you: God has already given you everything needed to move forward with courage, love, and clear-headed faithfulness.
