So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all to the glory of God.

There’s something almost surprising in the simplicity of Paul’s instructions—whether you’re eating, drinking, or doing anything else, let all of it be for God’s glory (1 Corinthians 10:31). Though he’s speaking, first of all, about meals that had been offered to idols and the debates among early Christians about what was truly allowed, his words widen to include every meal, every ordinary moment. Even the routines of eating breakfast or sharing dinner with friends can be turned, like small altars, for worship and gratitude if we hold in mind that every bite and drop comes from our Father’s hand (James 1:17).

How do we do that, practically? By remembering we are receivers, not earners. Each blessing on the table reminds us of God’s kindness, not our own deserving (Psalm 103:1-5). To eat and drink “to the glory of God” means confessing our dependence on His grace, cherishing His provision, and expressing real gratitude in the moment. It’s a quiet surrender—a contentment that says, “This is enough because You are good” (Philippians 4:11-13). When we embrace each meal, each kindness, as a covenant blessing purchased for us by Christ, gratitude grows deep roots.

And if even our most basic actions are to be offered up in this way, how much more should our worship be—especially when we gather at the Lord’s Table? Taking the bread and cup with thoughtful reverence, discerning what they really mean, and remembering the Savior’s love keeps us centered on Him, not just on ritual or routine (Luke 22:19-20).

At the heart of it all, God’s glory is the thread weaving through every part of our story. Our ordinary lives join in the great chorus of creation, providence, and redemption, echoing the One who graciously gives us all things in Christ (Romans 11:36). So, in your daily routines—seen or unseen—aim for His smile above all. Even humble acts, when done for Him, shine with glory that outlasts the day.
