Psalm 91:16
With long life I will satisfy him and show him My salvation.”
God promises, “With long life will I satisfy him,” speaking comfort to those who trust Him (Psalm 91:16). For those who belong to the Lord, years are not measured by the counting of days alone, but by the quiet assurance that each season holds its own appointed blessing. When saints come to the close of their earthly journey, they are not clinging bitterly to what’s behind, but, like Abraham, they are content—“full of years”—grateful and ready for what awaits (Genesis 25:8). Much like Simeon, who held the infant Jesus and prayed to depart in peace, those who walk with God find themselves satisfied with the life He gives, and look forward to the greater life to come (Luke 2:29).
The satisfaction God gives is not simply about the number of birthdays celebrated. It’s the quiet fulfillment of having received everything we truly need: grace for today, hope for tomorrow, and the deep peace of knowing that whenever our eyes close to this world, they will open to glory with Christ. In eternity, our satisfaction will be complete—endless days with the Lord, joy unbroken, and life that never fades (John 10:28).
Even more, God promises to “show him my salvation.” This is more than a glimpse of rescue—it’s a living relationship with Jesus, the very author and finisher of our salvation (Hebrews 12:2). Here, by faith, we see the sufficiency of what Christ has done; there, in heaven, we will enjoy it in fullness that words can scarcely describe. Believers taste that salvation now and will soon see it face to face, discovering new wonders forever.
So if you find yourself weary or worried about life’s length or brevity, rest in this: God will satisfy you in due season, show you His salvation, and bring you, finally, into eternal joy with Himself. Nothing short of this will ever truly satisfy the hearts He made for Himself.
