Psalm 100:4
Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and bless His name.
The invitation to “enter His gates with thanksgiving” draws us in like guests welcomed to a beloved home (Psalm 100:4). Picture coming into a city’s grand entrance—not just any city, but Zion, the place God calls His own, where His people have always longed to be, their feet finally standing in joyful fellowship (Psalm 87:2; Psalm 122:1-2). The gates also remind us of Christ Himself—our wise, open door, where those who wait find life and hope (Proverbs 8:34; John 10:9).
God’s house—His church and the times we gather—should be approached with gratitude for every mercy He’s shown, both in the everyday and in the gifts of the Gospel. Think of every worship service or moment of prayer as approaching His “courts” with praise, offering up the sacrifice that pleases Him: a thankful heart (Hebrews 13:15). Just as the Psalmist encouraged, we thank Him for the blessings we have in Christ—grace for each day, forgiveness, and the promise of His constant love (Psalm 65:4).
In all this, we are called to bless His name—to speak well of God, to honor and celebrate Him as endlessly worthy. “Blessed be His glorious name forever”; every blessing we have, every moment of peace or joy, is cause to lift our voices in humble thanks (Psalm 72:19). Never imagine that God asks for empty rituals; what He loves is a heart that remembers His goodness and responds in praise.
As you gather with others, or kneel alone in prayer, let simple gratitude fill your mind. No matter the season, you have reasons to enter in with thanksgiving—because the King welcomes you to stay and calls you His own.
