Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, to give you a future and a hope.

Picture the people of Israel in a foreign land, weighed down by uncertainty and longing for home. Into that heavy silence, God speaks words of remarkable tenderness: “I know the plans I have for you” (Jeremiah 29:11). God’s plans are not like human daydreams, quickly thought of and soon forgotten. What He purposes—whether about our rescue, provision, or restoration—is fixed in His heart, remembered across generations, and never lost to time. Unlike us, God does not lose track of His promises or change His mind about His children (Malachi 3:6James 1:17).

His thoughts toward His people are soaked in love and mercy, even through difficult seasons. The Israelites’ exile was painful, yet even this was wrapped in God’s goodness—He disciplined them for their welfare, not to destroy but to restore (Jeremiah 24:5). In the same way, God’s plans for His church always bend toward peace and not disaster, leading ultimately to reconciliation and wholeness through the suffering and triumph of Christ (Colossians 1:20). Any hardship that falls upon God’s people is never for their ruin, but, somehow, in His hands, even shadows can blossom into good (Romans 8:28).

God’s intention is to bring His people to “an expected end”—to a glorious fulfillment that puts an end to sorrow and opens the door to all the blessings He has promised (Hebrews 10:36). Ultimately, these plans center on Jesus, who is both the fulfillment and the goal of everything God has prepared for us (Revelation 1:8Romans 10:4). All the hopes, promises, and longing of the faithful find their “yes” in Him.

So hold on—whatever season you are in, God’s loving purposes are sure. Your trials are not the end of your story. The hope He gives is not wishful thinking, but a certain reward, anchored in His good heart and fulfilled in His Son. Rest in this: He is working, still and always, for your peace and your ultimate joy.
