Ephesians 6:10
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power.
At the close of his heartfelt letter, the apostle turns warmly to his “brothers and sisters”—not as a distant teacher but as one who stands alongside them, united by the miracle of new birth into God’s family (Ephesians 2:19). This isn’t just a friendly greeting. It’s a reminder that we all belong to the same household, bound together by grace, and it’s meant to encourage us before his final words of counsel.
“Be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might” (Ephesians 6:10), he urges. This isn’t self-help or grit-your-teeth determination. The kind of strength we need for the Christian life doesn’t come from our own resources—none of us can fight sin, temptation, and spiritual battles with our own willpower. The world, our own weaknesses, and the adversary we face are just too great for us alone (2 Corinthians 12:9).
But we are not left on our own: Christ holds all power and invites us to draw upon it. His strength never runs dry, and when we find ourselves running out, we are meant to reach for His. How? We lean into Him with prayer, ponder His promises, patiently walk in His ways, and trust the Spirit to build us up from the inside (Isaiah 40:29-31). The more we meditate on His might and cry out for His help, the more we discover His power made perfect in our weakness.
So take courage: You aren’t called to stand firm in your own energy, but in His. When the weight feels too heavy, remember He gives strength to the weary and power to those who have none. Christ’s might is fully available to all who come—rest in that truth today.
