Daily Verse. Acts 18:9

Acts 18:9

One night the Lord spoke to Paul in a vision: “Do not be afraid; keep on speaking; do not be silent.

On a quiet night in Corinth, Paul received a word of reassurance from the Lord—a vision shining through the darkness when anxiety pressed close (Acts 18:9). Christ knew the storm brewing around His servant. News of Crispus and his household turning to Christ, and the growing number of new believers, had stirred up suspicion and anger both from fellow Jews and the local Gentiles. Paul’s friends may have whispered caution, or perhaps his own heart wavered, hinting it would be safer to slip away or shrink from notice for a while.

Yet Jesus met him right in that place of uncertainty. “Don’t be afraid,” He urged—not a cold command, but a gentle, strengthening call. Fear so often whispers that retreat is the safer path. The Lord invites His people to stand their ground, not through their own bravery, but because His presence goes ahead (Joshua 1:9). Paul was told not to let anxiety hush his message. Don’t go silent; don’t let the threat of trouble steal your voice. The pulpit isn’t just for the bold; it’s for anyone resting in God’s promise.

This passage reminds us that when we feel surrounded by hostility or discouragement, God’s encouragement is not to retreat, but to trust and speak freely of the hope He has given us. Silence born of fear has never helped the gospel advance. Even today, in our workplaces or homes, there may be quiet pressure to hide what matters most. Christ’s words here urge every believer: keep sharing, keep loving, keep telling the story of grace.

Let this gentle command steady your steps. If you feel small or uncertain, remember that the Lord still walks alongside His people, supplying courage and words. He will guard His witnesses, and His purpose will stand, even when the way ahead looks dark.
