Psalm-56-3

Psalm 56:3

When I am afraid, I put my trust in You.

There are moments in every believer’s life when fear creeps in, just as it did for David when he felt threatened by King Achish of Gath (1 Samuel 21:12). Fear isn’t a stranger to God’s people. Sometimes it grips us when we wonder if we truly belong to God, or if His promises really hold for us. At other times, our own weaknesses and recurring failures make us anxious, as if temptation or sin might overwhelm us for good. Then there are those outside pressures—enemies and challenges that look bigger and stronger than we feel ourselves to be.

Yet in those anxious hours, these ancient words shine as a steady refrain: “I will trust in You” (Psalm 56:3). Trust is the soul’s quiet shelter, the very cure for fear. To trust the Lord is not to grit our teeth and ignore what scares us, but to rest ourselves on the unchanging foundation of His love. God’s character is never in doubt: He is strong enough to hold us up and faithful to keep every promise He’s spoken (Isaiah 26:4; 2 Corinthians 1:20).

If you find fear threatening to shake your confidence, remember that your security isn’t based on how steady your feelings are, but on how steadfast your God is. His love outlasts our anxieties, and His power overshadows every enemy. You can be honest about your worries, but don’t let them be the final word—let trust in God’s unwavering faithfulness quiet your fears and give you peace.
