Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!

Picture a table set with the richest delicacies, and a trusted friend urging you, “Go ahead—taste and see for yourself how good this truly is.” That is the sense of the psalmist’s invitation: “Taste and see that the Lord is good” (Psalm 34:8). This is not just an intellectual assent but an experienced, personal knowledge—a spiritual savoring of God’s kindness. God’s goodness isn’t distant or abstract; it is something you can genuinely encounter, no more limited than a hungry guest is limited at a generous banquet.

Every person of the Trinity overflows with this goodness. The Father’s plans aim toward your blessing, showering His people with precious promises and steadfast gifts (James 1:17). The Son, like the truly good Shepherd, lays down His life for the sheep, offering grace upon grace, redeeming, and defending you even now in heaven (John 10:11; Hebrews 7:25). The Holy Spirit, gentle and present, quietly ignites the knowledge and love of God in your heart, guiding and growing you in goodness (John 16:13). For those who have not yet tasted this, things may seem bland and uninviting—other flavors satisfy their palates. But when God gives new life, He grants new taste buds, a fresh capacity to delight in Christ, nourishing us with His grace (Ephesians 2:4–5).

This tasting isn’t just a sample, nor is it to be a rare event, but a recurring, deepening encounter with the Lord’s faithfulness. Still, it is only a foretaste of the perfect enjoyment awaiting believers; every sweet experience now is just a preview. And the more you taste, the more you’ll trust—“Blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him” (Psalm 34:8). God’s goodness invites you to safety, rest, and confidence, day by day.
