Acts 18:10

Acts 18:10

For I am with you and no one will lay a hand on you, because I have many people in this city.”

When Jesus gave this promise to Paul, He wasn’t just offering comfort; He was pledging His close presence and protection in the work ahead (Matthew 28:20). There’s a beautiful assurance here: God isn’t only with us when we feel strong or successful. He stands alongside His servants to empower them—in speaking the Word, understanding it deeply, and sharing it boldly, even in the most difficult places (Acts 18:9–10).

Notice the Lord’s tender care: “No one will attack and harm you.” God is not absent or indifferent to the threats against His people. He alone sets the boundaries for what is allowed (Job 1:10). Even those who oppose the gospel cannot lift a finger against God’s servant without His permission. This isn’t meant to lead us into fear, but into steady trust. The world’s hostility is never the final word; God’s protective hand stands between His people and their enemies (Psalm 121:7–8).

But the heart of Christ’s promise is even deeper: “I have many people in this city.” At first glance, Corinth seemed an unlikely place for spiritual harvest—its streets filled with every kind of sin and idolatry. Yet, God had already claimed individuals there as His own—even before they heard or believed. They were His by sovereign love, chosen to become sons and daughters, and Christ Himself had paid the price for their ransom (John 10:16Ephesians 1:4). The Lord knows exactly where His children are, even in places we’d least expect, and He will not rest until each one is gathered in.

So, let this encourage you—whether you serve the Lord in familiar comforts or hard places. Christ calls us to remain faithful not because of our strength, but because of His promise, His people, and His presence. He remains with us, working even in unlikely corners, and keeping us until His work in and through us is complete (Philippians 1:6).
