Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.

Picture the early morning light as you stand on a quiet path—a fork in the road ahead, uncertainty in the air. It is in such moments that the invitation comes: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart” (Proverbs 3:5). Here, God calls us to a whole-hearted confidence, not in our own abilities, not in our resources, and not in even the most faithful people or the tried-and-true routines of religion. It is easy to lean on what we have, who we know, or what we understand—but our hearts wander, our wisdom falters, and our strength runs dry (Jeremiah 17:9).

Instead, we are pointed to the Source: trust in God the Father for daily needs and every good thing (James 1:17); rest in the Son for acceptance, forgiveness, and life that never ends (John 14:6); rely on the Spirit’s quiet work to complete and uphold us (Philippians 1:6). Faith doesn’t grow in outward show or empty words, but in a genuine, ongoing trust that gives God every anxious thought, plan, and hope (Romans 10:10).

We’re warned not to lean on our own understanding—a temptation in every age. Our best judgment is limited, clouded by sin and incomplete knowledge (Ephesians 4:18). The human mind cannot grasp every mystery of God, no matter how sharp or learned; some truths are simply above us (Matthew 16:17). But what a relief this brings! God knows every turn in our road, sees every hidden obstacle, and promises guidance to those who acknowledge Him in all their ways (Proverbs 3:6). He never rests, never wearies, never loses sight of us, and He alone makes our path straight, even in the valleys and shadows (Psalms 46:10Jeremiah 10:23).

Today, as you face decisions great and small, walk forward with your hand in His. Lean fully on the One who loves you best, who directs your steps, and whose wisdom is better than your own.
