1 Corinthians 10:13
No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide an escape, so that you can stand up under it.
Temptation and trials have a way of making us feel alone, as if our struggles are somehow unique or unbearable. Yet the apostle comforts us here by saying that every hardship we face—even those that seem heavy—are the kind people everywhere have experienced before (1 Corinthians 10:13). Our difficulties may sometimes feel crushing, but God reminds us: nothing that comes our way is altogether unheard-of. Others, too, have walked this path and found God’s help along the way.
It’s easy to look at storms in our lives and imagine that surely no one else has ever been so tested, or that the enemy targets us with a fierceness reserved only for a select few. Yet, most often, the challenges are the kind that come simply with being human—misunderstandings, loss, pressure, frustration, or even the sting of being set aside for following Jesus (1 Peter 4:12). God sometimes allows these hardships, but He is the Father who knows our frame and never heaps on us more than we can abide with His help. Should Satan try to press in or our own weaknesses threaten to overwhelm, God remains our sure defense (Psalm 103:14).
The beautiful promise here is not that we will avoid trials, but that God is faithful. He does not allow suffering, temptation, or adversity to stretch us beyond our spiritual limits without providing the needed strength or a way to step out from under the crushing weight (Deuteronomy 33:25). Sometimes He removes the burden; other times He gives grace to endure. Whatever the case, His faithfulness stands unshaken. He will never leave His people stranded or left to fail (Hebrews 13:5).
So if you find yourself growing weary under repeated trials, remember: you are not alone, and you are not at the mercy of the storm. God sees, He understands, and He promises a path of endurance or escape so that, even in affliction, you can stand firm and one day rejoice in the victory He has secured for those who trust Him (Romans 8:37).
