August 2023

I hope you've been enjoying the summer. I've been spending most of these 'heat-wave' filled days in East Texas - but more on that in a moment.

First, I wanted to share some Christian reads that I think you'll enjoy! This month's offering has a little something for everyone- some Mystery, some Thriller, Romance, Sci-Fi/Fantasy, and even a few titles by yours truly 🙂 ...See the entire list of 93 Books --> "HERE"

And as for me and the Texas heat, we've been down there fixing up an old house. My wife and I plan on retiring there someday, in the town where she was born and raised.

Her sister's house is just right down the road and we all had plans together. She and my wife were going to learn the art of canning, in order to store all of the good things from the large garden my wife and I intend to work together (when I'm not busy writing books). And we would all go to restaurants ... or just sit on the back deck and talk while the evening whiled away... and on and on ... and on.

So on June 17th, 2023, my wife's sister was diagnosed with Melanoma - 'Cancer' - and it came out of nowhere. On July 29th, less than two months later, she went to be with the Lord.

The reason I'm sharing this, is because it brings to mind 1 Chronicles 29:15 which says:

We are here for only a moment,

visitors and strangers in the land

as our ancestors were before us.

Our days on earth are like a passing shadow,
gone so soon without a trace.

So I think it's important to remember that 'This Earth is not our home.'

Like James 4:14 tells us, "... you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away."

In light of this, we'd all do well to heed Jesus' words from his Sermon on the Mount.

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Matthew 6:19-21

So let's remember. As Christians, this Earth is not our home...

We're just passin' through.
